The Commercial Assistant will provide support to the development, implementation, and management of all commercial activities and controls of the business unit they are assigned to. This will involve reporting on contract performance to budget and forecasts, audit adherence to the procurement and pricing strategy, and commercial support to general managers.
Main Responsibilities:- Maintaining performance reports and business partnering with operational colleagues.
- Supporting the business unit in the generation of tenders for all opportunities.
- Building up strong knowledge of customer contracts, whilst maintaining the commercial contract log.
- Providing advice on commercial issues to general/framework managers.
- Reporting of work in progress, billing, and support of payment collection.
- Utilising methods to support all pricing and tendering activities.
- Preparing any subcontract tender requirements for management reviews.
- Using the Management Information System (MIS) to track work progress and report on any KPIs.
- Maintaining visibility of expenditure to ensure works are completed to budget.
- Collaborating with the Senior Management Team and attending management reviews as required.
- Continuously improving the reporting available to management.
The client is happy to consider the following suitable backgrounds: a graduate with a bachelor's or master's degree/equivalent qualification in business/mathematics/quantity surveying. Likewise, someone with demonstrable experience within a similar commercial or financial role, with a strong administrative background. E.g. a Trainee Accountant, Financial/Commercial Analyst would also be suitable. Furthermore, as would a Trainee Quantity Surveyor.
Whilst this role focuses on commercial administrative tasks, the candidate must have strong financial acumen given that it sits within the commercial team. Likewise, strong people and communication skills are essential for this position as you will work closely with various stakeholders across the business such as operations and the sales team, where you may need to challenge or negotiate. Furthermore, you will have an inquisitive mindset to be able to present solutions for queries that will ensure performance remains on target, as well as consistently supporting a commercial standpoint. It is essential that applicants hold a valid UK driving licence.
