Role Overview

The Commercial Finance Analyst plays a crucial role in supporting the firm's client/matter life cycle. Key responsibilities include:

  • Matter tracking and monitoring, with a focus on identifying deviations from budgeted costs
  • Producing financial reports and analysis to inform business decisions
  • Matter pricing and resource planning, including reporting to Business Managers on compliance with pricing governance frameworks
  • Quality assurance for matter setup and commercial terms, particularly for high-value matters and commercial arrangements

The role requires extensive collaboration with stakeholders in the legal and central teams, necessitating a professional, confident, and solution-focused approach.

Main Responsibilities
  • Business Manager support, including review of monthly profit and loss analysis, partner financial reports, and assistance with annual budgeting and financial planning
  • Supporting Senior Commercial Managers in project delivery
  • Assisting with matter pricing and large opportunity analysis, including attendance at kick-off meetings and presentation of pricing proposals
  • Providing matter/client reporting to facilitate timely review of issues with partners
  • Assisting with ad-hoc requests from Practice and Division heads, including analysis of monthly numbers and partner performance
  • Collaborating with financial teams to drive annual rate reviews across jurisdictions, with a focus on consistency with clients
  • Producing strategic financial analysis to support cross-functional and Commercial management initiatives
  • Preparing and delivering training on financial tools and reports to legal and business services teams
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies, including risk and control management
