We are seeking a qualified Highway Lawyer and Planning Expert to join our team at Staffordshire County Council. The successful candidate will have sound planning and highways knowledge, as well as the ability to provide complex legal advice on a variety of planning and highways transactions.

Our Legal Services Unit is a large in-house corporate legal team that provides quality services to support every function in the Council, including external clients.

Job Description

This role involves undertaking a rewarding and varied caseload of planning and highways-related matters. Previous experience in managing a planning and highways caseload is essential, within either public sector or private practice.

  • Providing complex legal advice on planning and highways transactions, including agreements under s106 Town and Country Planning Act 1990 and s278 Highways Act 1980
  • Advising on planning and highways enforcement matters
  • Undertaking legal input into strategic advice and risk, including drafting reports and attending meetings
  • Contributing to marketing and selling services
Requirements

We are looking for a Chartered Legal Executive, Solicitor or Barrister with:

  • Solid planning and highways knowledge
  • Local authority knowledge preferred but not essential
