Introduction

As part of the ArcelorMittal South Africa Limited team, you will be responsible for analysing workplace safety systems, upholding safety regulations, educating employees on maintaining their health and safety, and ensuring a proper working environment.

Purpose:

This role involves identifying and correcting potential hazards by inspecting facilities, machinery, and safety equipment, and evaluating various industrial control mechanisms' effectiveness.

  • Develop and implement safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to ensure proper administrative controls are in place.
  • Develop and implement training programs to educate employees on health and safety procedures.
  • Investigate incidents and develop corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate potential hazards.
  • Collaborate with the GMR 2,1 to ensure statutory actions are addressed.
  • Responsible for driving, executing, and obtaining the best resources from the plant regarding Improvement projects.
  • Part of the daily safety dialogue in GM's meetings and forums – Lead the way and support GM.
  • Responsible for Anomaly recording and action mitigations and closing the loops on these.
  • Verify and sign off with GM on closed loops.
  • Drive Risk Management and inform GM of progress and issues for support.
  • PSIF's – Pro-actively hinting in area, mitigate, close loop and verify.
  • Oversee the HIRA Champion of Area - Ensure proper HIRA's are conducted.
  • Must obtain / should have excellent technical competencies in electricity, mechanics, basic thermodynamics, basic chemistry, materials science, and basic automation.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Relevant Engineering Degree in Mechanical or Electrical.
  • Diploma in Safety Management or NEBOSH International General Certification preferable.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of the OHS Act and safety practices.
  • Proven experience with safety risk management.
