Job Title: Graduate Mechanical/Design Engineer

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Graduate Mechanical/Design Engineer to join our team at the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC). As a Graduate Mechanical/Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing mechanical systems for our advanced ground and space-based astronomy and earth observation program.

About the Role:
  • Design and develop mechanical systems for our advanced ground and space-based astronomy and earth observation program.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to develop innovative solutions for complex engineering problems.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and scientists to ensure that designs meet project requirements and goals.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including design reports, technical specifications, and operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Participate in design reviews, vendor liaison, assembly, integration, testing, and commissioning of instruments and sub-systems.

Requirements:
  • A first degree in a relevant subject, such as mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of the principles of mechanical engineering, including design, CAE, strength of materials, and GPS.
  • Experience with CAD software, such as Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
