Adult Learning Disabilities Speech Therapist

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a tertiary level speech and language service to deaf adults with mental health diagnoses. This will involve assessing, diagnosing, and treating disorders of language and communication, including difficulties with eating, drinking, and swallowing.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years post-qualification experience in a healthcare setting, with a focus on working with deafness, language deprivation, and mental health disorders. They will also be expected to achieve a minimum of Level 2 British Sign Language (BSL) within three years and Level 3 within five years.
Key Skills and Qualifications- Graduate Diploma/Degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent
- Registered with the Health Professions Council
- Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
- Master's degree or related training and experience to master's level equivalent
- British Sign Language Signature Level 2 or equivalent fluency
- Successful completion of highly specialist/expert short courses relevant to the field
- Minimum 4 years postgraduate experience
- Demonstrable postgraduate experience as a SLT, including specialist level experience of deafness
- Experience of multi-disciplinary teamwork
- Experience of working with clients with challenging behavior
- Experience of working with Deaf Adults and/or teenagers/children using a range of assessments and therapy techniques
- Experience of working with clients with mental health needs, autistic spectrum disorder, learning disability
This role is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975, and a Disclosure and Barring Service check will be required. The successful candidate will be expected to work within the NHS framework and adhere to its policies and procedures.
The salary for this role is £61,927 to £68,676 per annum, inclusive of inner London HCAS.
