Operations Manager

A key position within a successful, long-established print firm based in the Southern Home Counties to oversee all production activities, ensuring continued improvement in operational efficiency and maximizing profitability from manufacturing processes and people development.
Responsibilities- Assisting with the strategic development and management of operational viability and profitability of the business, trouble-shooting where required.
- Ensuring operational requirements of the support functions are met.
- Monitoring progress against KPIs, analyzing and interpreting results, bearing in mind current and future market and business conditions.
- Reviewing historic loadings analysis and current sales projections with the Planning Manager to determine future resourcing and cross-selling requirements.
- Reviewing previous week's performance and generating weekly performance data across post-press manufacturing processes, identifying top loss issues, and implementing plans for improvement activities. Presenting data and plans for improvement at the weekly cost deployment meeting.
- Managing, leading, and developing operational managers to ensure business goals are met.
- Providing guidance in respect of business direction and on-call support where required.
- Setting key operational objectives, aligning with overall business goals, and ensuring effectively cascaded down through operational areas.
- Ensuring managers understand their role in achieving goals and objectives, providing coaching and mentoring where required to develop their skills and knowledge within the business and improve productivity.
- Responsible for quality, environmental, and health and safety practice and adherence within areas of responsibility.
- Providing on-site/on-call support where required to ensure direct reports solve issues and drive root cause analysis to eliminate reoccurrence.
- Ensuring effective maintenance and resolution of quality incidents processes and meetings.
- Ensuring managers fulfill their responsibilities and are compliant with regulatory and company policy and procedure.
- Ensuring operational procedures comply with regulatory requirements without negatively impacting productivity.
- Ensuring effective and efficient analysis of departmental expenditure to determine future requirements and assist with maintaining financial stability and profitability of the business.
- Using analysis to identify and drive sustainable efficiency improvements.
- Ensuring balance maintained between costs/resourcing and work input/output.
- Determining ongoing requirements for permanent and casual staff to minimize operational cost.
- Examining short-term financial impact, long-term investment, and business benefit for operational improvements, preparing and presenting business cases to the Board for approval on improvement projects and future investments.
- Assisting in setting annual performance targets and cost budgets.
- Maintaining up-to-date and accurate awareness of industry developments and corporate and legal governance to ensure business compliance within areas of responsibility.
- Developing skills and knowledge to provide cover during absence for the line manager.
- Able to make effective use of IT applications appropriate to the role.
- Effectively and proactively engaging managers to ensure effective implementation of change initiatives within areas of responsibility.
- Leading the development of a culture of continuous improvement through identification, standardization, implementation, and maintenance of best practice.
- Ensuring the team is aware of targets and their contribution in achieving them, through regular team briefs, etc.
- Ensuring effective communication with all relevant parties to minimize the impact of issues and ensure effective resolution.
- Ensuring direct reports are appropriately trained to cover absences.
- Managing individual performance through appropriate performance management review processes and dealing with poor performance effectively and efficiently.
- Ensuring effective planning and delivery of induction, ensuring effective preparation and delivery of team development plans in liaison with the Human Resources and Development team.
- Ensuring all staff are competent to complete tasks assigned. Completing training needs analysis (TNA) to identify any skills gaps and ensuring development activities are put in place to resolve.
