About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Workshop Leading Hand to join our team at SMT GB. In this role, you will be responsible for effectively leading and coordinating the workshop team to ensure the timely and efficient completion of service and repair tasks on machinery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the workshop team and allocate tasks to ensure the efficient use of resources
  • Carry out service and repair tasks on Volvo construction equipment or miscellaneous equipment
  • Maintain a high standard of quality and workmanship
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Monitor and control workshop processes, including workflow and productivity
  • Train and mentor workshop technicians
  • Work closely with the Workshop Manager to identify areas for improvement and implement process enhancements
  • Provide technical support and guidance to colleagues and customers
  • Manage workshop inventory and ensure proper stock levels
  • Complete administrative tasks, including job cards and reports

Requirements:

  • A formal engineering qualification in Plant Maintenance, Agricultural/HGV mechanics or related field
  • Proven experience in a similar role, preferably within the heavy construction plant industry
  • Strong technical knowledge and expertise in diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and electronics
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and delegate tasks
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Valid driver's license
