About the role

The Clinical Nurse Specialist in Secondary Breast Cancer will be a key member of the multidisciplinary team within the breast care service. This role will involve working closely with patients, families, and carers to assess needs, develop individual care plans, and provide nursing advice and support.

Main duties

  1. Provide specialist nursing advice and support to patients diagnosed with secondary breast cancer and their relatives and carers.
  2. Facilitate the development of the secondary breast cancer pathway.
  3. Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary teams within the breast unit and the oncology unit across the Trust.
  4. Liaise with primary and secondary team members to facilitate and co-ordinate patient centred care.
  5. Ensure patients receive all relevant information to enable them to make informed choices about their treatment.
  6. Work with patients, families, and carers to assess needs, develop individual care plans, and re-evaluate as ongoing care needs change.
  7. Co-ordinate and support clinics and prioritise all referrals from the multidisciplinary team.
  8. Lead in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing practices.
  9. Identify and refer breast patients for psychological, physio, and dietetic support as needed.
  10. Exercise leadership and inspire colleagues to improve standards and quality.
  11. Participate in the development of individual care pathways for patients with secondary breast cancer.

Requirements

  • NMC registration
  • First level degree, or equivalent qualification
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Relevant clinical experience in breast cancer and/or oncology
  • Demonstrates knowledge of policies, practices, and procedures
  • Demonstrates knowledge of personalised care
