About the Role

The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Treatment Planning Specialist to join our Radiotherapy Physics team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for the production of high-quality radiotherapy plans for the safe and accurate treatment of patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Production of radiotherapy plans using advanced techniques such as VMAT and SABR
  • Evaluation of plans prior to clinician approval
  • Scheduling of verification appointments
  • Liaising with patients as required
  • Scheduling treatment appointments for complex planning
  • Ensuring all necessary documentation is available

Manufacture of Patient-Specific Devices

  • Manufacturing patient-specific immobilization devices and bolus
  • Constructing custom alloy and lead shielding devices for megavoltage, superficial, and electron treatments
  • Advising on the fit of molds to ensure accurate delivery of treatment
  • Marking up immobilization devices to a high degree of accuracy

Brachytherapy

  • Performing treatment planning for patients undergoing brachytherapy
  • Ensuring applicators are ready for use and attending theaters as required
  • Handling all aspects of work related to radioactive sealed sources
  • Participating in the delivery of brachytherapy

General Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the daily organization and running of the computer planning area
  • Maintaining professional attitudes at all times
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to data protection regulations
  • Liaising with other staff members and departments
  • Participating in the accurate collection of departmental statistics
  • Working closely with clinicians, specialist registrars, junior doctors, physicists, dosimetrists, and radiographers
  • Carrying out duties required for the accurate and timely treatment and planning of patients
  • Supervising staff and students
  • Participating in the training of other staff
  • Ensuring personal training records are up-to-date
  • Awareness of ISO 9001 requirements
  • Assisting in the writing and updating of quality management system documents
  • Assisting with visits from nursing staff, medical students, and other disciplines
  • Performing other reasonable duties as delegated by the Head of Radiotherapy Physics
  • Undertaking further specialist training

Requirements

  • Appropriate qualification and registration as a Therapy Radiographer or Clinical Technologist
  • Current or recent experience (minimum 18 months)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) or additional experience
  • Desirable skills and knowledge include experience in a mould room, complex radiotherapy planning techniques, and advanced computer skills
