Special Needs Education Assistant

We seek a highly skilled Special Needs Education Assistant to support the learning, development, and care of young children in our primary school based in Kings Heath, Birmingham. This is a rewarding opportunity to earn £38,000 - £48,000 per year.

About the Position:

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing individualized support to children with special educational needs (SEN) or disabilities, adapting activities and resources to meet their unique requirements. You should have relevant qualifications and/or experience in early years education, such as a Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification or equivalent.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement tailored plans to support children with special educational needs (SEN) or disabilities, taking into account their distinct needs and abilities.
  • Work closely with early years practitioners to ensure seamless integration of support services for children with SEN or disabilities.
  • Conduct regular observations and assessments to monitor children's progress, using tools and techniques outlined in the EYFS framework, and provide constructive feedback to inform ongoing assessment and planning.
  • Foster positive relationships with parents or caregivers, keeping them informed about their child's progress and offering guidance and support.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety protocols, including risk assessments, supervision of children, and promoting good hygiene practices.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance your expertise in the EYFS framework, child development, safeguarding, and first aid.

Necessary Qualifications and Skills:

  • Relevant qualifications and/or experience in early years education, such as a Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification or equivalent.
  • Thorough understanding of the EYFS framework, encompassing its principles, objectives, and standards.
  • Experience in supporting children with special educational needs (SEN) or disabilities in an early years environment.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to establish positive connections with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Aptitude to work collaboratively as part of a team and engage with colleagues to support children's learning and development.
  • Adaptable and flexible approach to work, accompanied by a positive attitude and genuine enthusiasm for working with young children.
