About the Role

The Vale of Glamorgan Council is seeking a highly skilled Decarbonisation and Energy Manager to lead the Energy and Decarbonisation Team. As a key member of the Property Team, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and reporting the Council's Carbon Management Plan.

About the Team

You will work closely with the Energy Team to contribute to the Council's Project Zero challenges and lead on the property-related challenges set out in the Climate Change Challenge Plan. Your expertise will be essential in implementing the Council's decarbonisation priorities and ensuring compliance with Welsh Government carbon reporting requirements.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Significant experience of managing a team in a relevant specialism (e.g. Energy/Decarbonisation)
  • Post-qualification experience working in a relevant role in the energy sector, including operating within relevant legislation and grant/funding arrangements for Energy projects
  • Experience of communicating with senior stakeholders
  • Experience of managing projects and contracts
  • Experience of working collaboratively with other public and private sector organisations
  • Excellent working knowledge of energy efficiency initiatives and Welsh Government carbon reporting requirements
  • Excellent working knowledge of energy-efficient design and sustainable development principles
  • Excellent working knowledge of renewable energy initiatives and opportunities
  • Knowledge of the work of relevant public sector energy groups, such as the CLAW Energy Group
  • Degree in a relevant property/Energy-related discipline (or equivalent)
  • Professional Membership of the RICS or similar professional body
  • Passionate and a strong commitment to the decarbonisation and energy efficiency agendas
  • Self-motivated and self-disciplined
  • Ability to work at pace on time-bound projects and to lead others to do the same
  • Commitment to continuous personal development and motivated to share learning with others in the team
  • Ability to plan and prioritise workload effectively
  • Commitment to community engagement activity and to lead communities in achieving energy efficiencies
  • Ability to drive/travel throughout the Vale or between locations as appropriate
