Principal Ecologist Opportunity

Neo Environmental, a leading planning and environmental consultancy, is seeking a highly skilled Principal Ecologist to join their team. This exciting opportunity will allow the successful candidate to work on a diverse range of projects, with a primary focus on renewable energy.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ecology, with significant experience in report writing and a good understanding of Irish ecological legislation and regulations. They will be able to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake ecological surveys, including phase 1/Fossitt habitat surveys and IVC's, protected species scoping surveys, and bat surveys.
  • Produce comprehensive reports, including preliminary ecological appraisals, ecological impact assessments, EIA chapters, biodiversity management plans, and protected species reports.
  • Liaise with clients and statutory consultees, attend client and site meetings, and undertake ECoW roles where required.
  • Line management responsibility and team leadership duties for the Ballymena office.

Requirements:

  • Degree in ecology or a related field.
  • Significant professional report writing experience.
  • Good knowledge of Irish ecological legislation and regulations.
  • Experience of phase 1/Fossitt habitat surveys and IVC's.
  • Technically competent.
  • Ability to produce reports for clients, with attention to detail, reliability, and good organizational skills.
  • Flexibility to travel across NI and ROI with occasional overnight stays.
  • Full driving license and own transport.

Desirable Criteria:

  • CIEEM accreditation.
  • Demonstrable postgraduate experience in ecology surveys.
  • Ornithology experience.
  • Bat survey experience.
  • GWDTE experience.
  • Ecological Clerks of Works (ECoW) experience.
  • Knowledge or experience using ArcGIS or similar.
  • Other protected species survey experience and licenses.
