Job Overview

South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled Fleet Engineer to join its team at the workshop facility in Didcot. The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining and repairing specialist vehicles and equipment to the highest standards, ensuring maximum vehicle availability at all times.

The successful applicant will have relevant workshop experience involving all aspects of vehicle maintenance and repair, including carrying out maintenance and repairs of ambulances and other vehicles to specified standards. Additionally, they will attend scenes of breakdowns for repairs, following safety guidelines, and prepare new vehicles for service and old vehicles for disposal.

Main Duties of the Job
  • To carry out maintenance and repairs of ambulances and other vehicles as specified by SCAS to required standards.
  • Attend scenes of breakdowns for repairs, ensuring safety guidelines are followed.
  • Prepare new vehicles for service and prepare old vehicles for disposal.
  • Maintain the upkeep of records relating to maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment.
  • Have due regard to health and safety of yourself and others, reporting any hazards or accidents immediately.
  • Aware of and follow security procedures.
  • Attend training courses related to maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment.
  • Make decisions on vehicle repairs in absence of Fleet Supervisor.
  • Participate in Duty Mechanic standby rota system.
  • Full participation in all income generation work relevant to Fleet maintenance operation.
