Health and Safety Officer
About the RoleWe are seeking a highly skilled Health and Safety Officer to join our team at Ridgeway and Co. As a leading residential main contractor, we require an individual with extensive experience in construction health and safety.
Key Responsibilities- Policy Development and Compliance: Develop and implement site-specific health and safety policies, ensuring alignment with relevant laws, standards, and regulations.
- Hazard Identification and Risk Mitigation: Conduct regular risk assessments and site inspections to identify and rectify hazards, fostering a safe working environment.
- Training and Awareness: Deliver effective health and safety training sessions to educate employees and contractors on their responsibilities and safety best practices.
- Incident Investigation and Prevention: Investigate workplace incidents, determine root causes, and implement preventive strategies to promote a culture of reporting near-misses and learning from incidents.
- Record-Keeping and Reporting: Maintain up-to-date health and safety documentation and provide detailed reports to senior management.
- Collaboration and Advocacy: Work closely with site managers, contractors, and external bodies to champion safety culture and ensure clear communication of health and safety issues.
- Certifications: NEBOSH certification is essential, with IOSH membership preferred for commitment to professional standards.
- Industry-Specific Expertise: At least five years of health and safety experience in construction, specifically with large-scale residential projects, and a deep understanding of industry-specific risks, hazards, and regulatory requirements.
- Skills: Strong communication, training, and interpersonal skills to engage diverse teams, analytical mindset for conducting investigations and implementing solutions, and ability to influence stakeholders and promote a culture of safety.
The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary of up to £60,000 per annum, reflecting the challenging nature of this role and the need for a highly experienced individual to drive our safety culture forward.
