The Med Mal underwriting team at Hiscox is seeking a skilled Development Underwriter to drive profitable growth across the Allied Healthcare sector in the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite consistently and profitably, developing close relationships with brokers and effectively negotiating with internal and external parties.
  • Maintain and develop internal and external customer relations, visiting broker partners and writing their business.
  • Identify and challenge non-standard underwriting decisions, with a reasoned referral to an underwriting manager.
  • Improve non-performing broker accounts in terms of overall profitability, retention, and new business ratios.

Requirements

  • A minimum of three years relevant Medical Malpractice development underwriting experience.
  • ACII qualification or progression towards this.
  • Demonstrable drive, self-motivation, and determination to achieve results.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, combined with a proven track record of relationship management and customer focus.
  • Able to apply consideration to potential outcomes and make decisions with supervision in difficult and complex situations.
