Job Title: Apprentice Project Engineer

Role Overview:

The role of Apprentice Project Engineer involves managing resources within a designated area or section, as assigned by the Construction Manager. This position requires supervision, advice, and guidance to be provided to the Construction team members and Sub-Contractors.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Implement and ensure compliance with relevant HS2 and statutory requirements related to Health, Safety, Environment, and Public Relations within the scope of work.
  2. Review contractual agreements and develop design, working methods, program, and forecast costs with the General Foreman and Subcontractors/Suppliers or other involved parties, identifying inaccuracies or inconsistencies, and providing feedback on any changes made to the QA and QS teams.
  3. Be fully conversant with subcontractor contract conditions, assist in developing job-specific subcontract conditions, and manage the subcontractors' account with the QS team.
  4. Communicate non-conformances and instructions received from the client/designer/RE staff to the Project Manager, QA, and QS teams, ensuring comprehensive records of resources employed on additional works are maintained.
  5. Keep a full and accurate daily site diary, including changes/variations, subcontractors' attendance, and records of work-related discussions with the Client/Designer/RE/Project Team.
  6. Ensure inspection and test plans, risk assessments, and method statements for the control of works are implemented and adhered to.
  7. Be familiar with and demonstrate commitment to the Health and Safety and Environmental Policies.
  8. Ensure the Construction Team, Sub-Contractors, and Suppliers receive or have access to copies of relevant Health and Safety and Environmental Policy and are kept informed of relevant developments and issues.
  9. Internal liaison with the Construction Manager, Engineering Team, QA team, and Cost Control.
  10. External liaison with HS2, Subcontractors/Suppliers, and Stakeholders, with close coordination with the Construction Manager required.
  11. Understand the Client and Joint Venture Partners' Environment and Sustainability Policies, Processes, and statutory requirements affecting the company's operations and ensure their implementation on the project.

Requirements:

  1. Degree-level qualification in a Civil Engineering allied subject or HND in Civil Engineering with vocational training in Engineering.
  2. Understanding of Engineering Principles.
  3. Knowledge and understanding of construction contract law and forms of contract through experience and formal training.
  4. Computer competence (MS Word, Excel, Document control system).
  5. Relevant CSCS Card.
  6. Training in Health and Safety and Environmental management.
