Principal Ecologist Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Ecologist to lead our environmental consultancy team in assessing natural environments and wildlife, conducting surveys, and creating plans to minimize the impact of developments on ecosystems and protected species.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in ecological assessments, protected species licensing, and team leadership. They will be responsible for managing various projects, mentoring junior ecologists, and ensuring high-quality deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of ecologists in conducting ecological assessments and surveys
  • Develop and implement plans to minimize the impact of developments on ecosystems and protected species
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality results
  • Mentor and develop junior ecologists to enhance their skills and knowledge
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their needs and deliver tailored solutions

Requirements

  • CIEEM Member, FISC level 3 and up
  • Protected species license (bats or GCN)
  • Experience leading and mentoring a team of ecologists
  • Full UK driving license
