The Role

As a Fibre Optical Systems Engineer at QinetiQ, you'll have a unique opportunity to work on novel laser and optical systems. You'll be actively involved in delivering work packages, leveraging your expertise in fibre optical systems to drive innovation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, and deploy optical systems to meet project requirements
  • Undertake technical tasks related to High Energy Laser development, test, and evaluation
  • Engage with stakeholders to ensure effective communication and collaboration
  • Travel to trial sites across the UK to support project delivery
  • Contribute to large projects as part of a team of subject matter experts
  • Lead technical projects to drive results and growth

Essential Skills and Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of optical fibres and fibre components
  • Practical experience designing, developing, and assembling optical fibre systems
  • Robust understanding of laser and optical physics
  • Experience working with laboratory test and measurement equipment/instrumentation
  • Awareness of laser safety practices

Qualifications and Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant field
  • Eligibility for SC clearance
