Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Research Associate in Social Anthropology to join our team at the University of Bristol. The successful candidate will be responsible for undertaking ethnographic research among informal extractive economies in Amazonia.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct ethnographic research among informal extractive economies in Amazonia
  • Work closely with a remote sensing expert and a team of ethnographers to collect data on the social, legal, and technical dimensions of small-scale extraction in Amazonia
  • Co-lead in the design of an interdisciplinary project workplan and analytical pipeline
  • Carry out data collection in Amazonia on at least one of the project themes
Requirements
  • PhD in Social Anthropology or relevant discipline with training in ethnographic techniques
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and presentation skills
  • Ability to engage in interdisciplinary collaborative work
  • Language skills in Spanish and/or Portuguese (desirable)
What We Offer

The post is offered on a full-time basis and is funded for 3 years. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a remote sensing expert, a team of ethnographers, and software developers to design an interdisciplinary project workplan and analytical pipeline.
