Job Description

At Bellway Homes, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Technical to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and manage our technical function, ensuring a practical and cost-effective technical service to the Division.

The role of Head of Technical is responsible for effectively leading and managing the Divisions Technical function, incorporating inception to completion, site evaluation, architectural and engineering design, and the investigation of any technical problems and the provision of economical and viable solutions.

The key accountabilities of the role include:

  • Leading and motivating the technical team to ensure they are fully engaged to achieve best performance to meet the needs of the business
  • Effectively managing the Divisions Technical function to ensure best practices are followed, costs are controlled, and the department maximises revenue generation and contribution to the Divisions operating profit
  • Advising the land department on the technical viability of new sites
  • Ensuring planning permissions and other statutory approvals are obtained in a timely manner
  • Preparing technical department procedures, layouts, and technical reports for land appraisals and required working drawings to the agreed schedule
  • Liaising with the Commercial teams to ensure that all activities are delivered to the agreed time/cost/specification
  • Ensuring that all technical team interventions are within budgets and forecasts as well as in line with Group procedures and protocols
  • Providing accurate progress updates and regular reports to the Managing Director and liaising with Group Technical Director on all ongoing initiatives and strategies

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience working at a senior level within the housebuilding industry as either a Head of Technical/Technical Director or equivalent, running numerous projects simultaneously
  • A good level of knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety/CDM Regulations, LABC/NHBC requirements, Building Regulations, Planning System, Codes of Practice, Party Wall Awards, and other associated legislation connected with both house and flat construction

Qualifications and Training:

  • Qualified as a Civil/Building Engineer, Architecture, or Construction-related degree level or HNC/HND in a built environment subject with relevant experience
  • CSCS card or equivalent
  • Current full UK driving licence

  • Strong communication, listening, presentation skills, and excellent attention to detail
  • Methodical, conscientious, organised, and works to deliver high standards
  • Ability to recognise problems and deal with them in a speedy and effective manner
  • Ability to manage and motivate a team
  • Ability to thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to problem solve and delegate effectively
  • Proficient IT skills along with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and the ability to adapt to new systems
