About the Role

We're seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Scientist to join our team. As a key member of our Product Development team, you'll be responsible for leading all aspects of product development, including planning and undertaking laboratory and pilot plant work, producing prototypes, and understanding and solving technical problems related to the coatings and plastics segment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement safe working practices and adhere to environmentally safe work protocols.
  • Maintain laboratory and pilot plant equipment in accordance with site safety rules.
  • Conduct research and development activities to identify and develop new products and processes.
  • Mentor junior scientists and provide guidance and support as needed.
  • Plan and perform laboratory and pilot plant work independently, with guidance from Manager.
  • Develop and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and productivity.
  • Record and analyze data, and present findings to seniors in both written and oral form.
  • Identify and share continuous improvement ideas to enhance process, product development, safety, and cost reduction.

About You

We're looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Scientist with a strong background in chemistry and a passion for innovation. You'll have a strong understanding of inorganic chemistry, particularly in the coatings and plastics segment, and be able to apply your knowledge to drive our research and development efforts forward.

Requirements:

  • Honours degree in Chemistry or related subject. Preferred Master's or in chemistry.
  • Experience of Product Development in an industrial manufacturing environment involving inorganic chemistry, especially that for silica or alumina.
  • Preferred experience in the chemistry and physics of particles, or in the coatings industry.
  • Good commercial awareness of the chemical manufacturing industry.
  • A good knowledge of health and safety procedures generally in relation to internal Safety, Health, and the Environment (SHE) and Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) protocols.
  • Ability to introduce new concepts and methods to work processes.
  • Competent in Six Sigma methodologies (Design of Experiments (DOE), statistical analysis, etc.).
  • The ability to work equally well as part of a team or independently, and a demonstrated ability to lead a team to the completion of a task.
  • Competent in documenting all potential Intellectual Property (IP); submitting invention disclosures; and being part of a team working with attorneys on patent applications.
  • Competent in writing reports, performing presentations, and verbal communication skills.
