Job Summary

Thomson Reuters is seeking a Senior Counsel to support Reuters News in a global media lawyer role. The successful candidate will be an experienced commercial lawyer who can negotiate complex media/technology deals and provide creative legal advice on multijurisdictional issues.

About the Role

The Senior Counsel will work closely with Reuters leadership in New York and London, and in coordination with Thomson Reuters lawyers and staff around the world. The role can be located in London, Toronto, or New York.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate media licensing and partnership deals
  • Provide timely, clear, and practical advice on legal issues across the media business
  • Support business stakeholders in analyzing novel technologies and use cases through a legal lens
  • Ensure compliance with the Thomson Reuters Trust Principles
  • Track global legal developments affecting the interests of news and media businesses

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Substantial post-qualification experience negotiating media licensing deals and advising clients in news/media/information/technology industries
  • The ability to advocate for the interests of business partners in commercial disputes
  • Depth and breadth of experience in acting in intellectual property matters, especially copyright
  • Adaptability and a strong work ethic with the ability to work independently, prioritize, and meet deadlines and demands in a fast-paced environment
