We are seeking a seasoned Construction Manager to join our Asset Protection team at Network Rail. As an Apprentice Construction Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring that construction activities undertaken by third and outside parties comply with the Guide to Railway Investment Projects (GRIP), relevant rules, regulations, Railway Group, and Network Rail's company standards.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring site activities compliance with GRIP, relevant rules, regulations, Railway Group, and Network Rail's company standards;
  • Reviewing contractor's method statements and site-specific risk assessments in conjunction with the Protection Engineer;
  • Liaising with Network Rail personnel to ensure arrangements for access, possession, storage, worksites, etc.;
  • Conducting regular pre-arranged inspections to monitor the quality of the contractor's work, instruct contractors as necessary, and ensure non-conformance reports are addressed;
  • Inspecting completed works and surveying for readiness for inspection and control of any remedial works required;
  • Maintaining awareness of HSQE and good workmanship through regular communication with contractors' site staff;
  • Assessing competence of contractors' staff prior to and during work phases;
  • Checking contractor compliance with Network Rail policy in accident/incident reporting and assisting with investigations;
  • Agreeing site records and freight haulage claims with the contractor for payment purposes;
  • Providing functional support to Development Managers and Project Managers as directed.

You will also be expected to possess:

  • Relevant successful construction experience in the railway industry;
  • Commercial awareness;
  • The ability to manage principal contractors and their subcontractors;
  • A CSCS/CITB scheme/Nebosh certificate; and
  • Safety management awareness/training.
