About the Role

Instron is a global leader in materials testing applications, and we are seeking a skilled Assembly and Test Technician to join our European Operations Department in High Wycombe, UK.

Job Purpose

As an Assembly and Test Technician, you will be responsible for the assembly and test of Transducers, ensuring they meet the required performance and quality levels. You will also be involved in aiding the improvement of processes for the assembly and test of further products as directed by the Team leader.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble and test Transducers using the latest relevant assembly processes and drawings, Test Specification Procedure (TSP), and calibrated test equipment.
  • Correctly assemble and test associated test load strings and test fixtures and jigs.
  • Diagnose faults in units under test.
  • Inspect and pack customer orders in accordance with current procedures.
  • Report faults correctly using Agile quality tools.
  • Ensure a safe working environment with a focus on safe working practices, including housekeeping and the use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
  • Aware of risk assessments, safety notice boards, and COSHH regulations, and abide by them.
  • Use safe and regularly maintained hand tools, fixtures, power tools, torque wrenches, and material handling equipment.
  • Apply administrative procedures associated with the use of Agile and IFS.
  • Contribute to reducing costs and improving quality.
  • Occasionally visit customer sites to assist with installation and commissioning of systems.

Key Competencies

  • Detailed knowledge of hand tools and tool selection.
  • Quality focus and good attention to detail for small assemblies.
  • Electronic testing and fault diagnosis to component level.
  • Ability to read and understand Engineering, Assembly, and Manufacturing drawings.
  • Computer literacy with the ability to enter data into MS Excel and MS Word, as well as use of email.
  • Good physical health and fitness due to the requirement of handling, moving, and distributing awkward and/or heavy items.
  • Electro-mechanical/Electronic Wiring background.
  • Experience with electro-mechanical and/or electronic assemblies, computers, electrical/electronic consumer goods, military, avionics, and/or electronics industries.

Qualifications

  • Full relevant training will be provided. As a minimum, the following qualifications would be advantageous but not prescriptive.
  • GCSE or equivalent level Mathematics.
  • GCSE or equivalent Science base subject, preferably Physics.
  • GCSE or equivalent Craft based subject, Woodwork, Metalwork, Design, Technology.

Additional Information

Working conditions will be normal factory environment with some exposure to the open air, with occasional physical discomfort due to temperature change, noise, and weather conditions. Working days will be Monday to Friday inclusive.
