About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Executive Legal Officer to join our team at Bishopthorpe Palace, the official residence of the Archbishop of York. As a key member of our small, friendly, and close-knit team, you will play a vital role in supporting the Archbishop in his metropolitical functions, including clergy discipline and Canon C4 processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert legal advice and guidance to the Archbishop on matters related to clergy discipline, Canon C4 processes, and other legislative issues.
  • Liaise with the Archbishop of York on potential, current, and past Clergy Discipline Measure (CDM) cases, making necessary administrative arrangements, including research and preparation of correspondence and briefing papers.
  • Support the Archbishop in his metropolitical functions, including clergy discipline and Canon C4 processes, and provide guidance on data protection policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with the Archbishop of York regarding applications for Canon C4 faculties received from Diocesan Bishops in the Northern Province.
Requirements
  • This is a hybrid role, with the expectation to work from the primary office 2-3 days per week.
  • A basic DBS check will be required as part of our pre-employment checks.
