The South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Building Control Service Manager to lead and deliver their shared building control service. About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and delivering the building control service, ensuring compliance with building regulations and associated legislation. The role requires excellent building knowledge, leadership skills, and the ability to effectively manage a team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in building control, proven leadership skills, and a strong understanding of building regulations and associated legislative frameworks.

Main Responsibilities

This role involves leading the team in carrying out site inspections, ensuring compliance with building regulations, and managing the appointment and development of team members. The candidate must be able to communicate ideas and expectations clearly, demonstrate political awareness and sensitivity, and occasionally deal with potentially hazardous situations. Additional responsibilities include assisting in the operational management of the service area, developing and refining team processes and procedures, and ensuring that all work is conducted in a timely and professional manner.

Requirements

To succeed in this role, the candidate must possess a degree or equivalent qualification in building studies or a related field, full professional membership of RICS, CABE, or equivalent, and at least five years of working experience at a senior level in the building control profession. Additionally, the candidate must hold full and current driving license with ready access to a vehicle insured for business use.
