Job Overview

The role of a Veterinary Nurse is paramount to providing exceptional client and patient care. As a key member of the nursing team, you will work closely with the Clinical Nursing Manager to foster great team dynamics, provide guidance and support to junior nursing staff and animal care/kennel assistants, and ensure seamless communication with all teams to deliver outstanding patient and client care.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure the highest standard of care is provided at all times to 100% of patients.
  • Deliver excellent patient care while considering the practice's business aspects, ensuring cost-effective management practices are implemented.
  • Maintain accurate records of clients and patients.
  • Provide an efficient, courteous, and helpful service to clients, suppliers, and external contacts under all conditions.
  • Participate in the admission and discharge process of patients, ensuring accuracy.
  • Demonstrate commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Liaise between the nursing team and other teams within the practice to maintain effective communication.
  • Promote our services, employees, and products both within and outside the practice.
  • Understand and implement practice policies.
  • Take an active role in training veterinary nurses and animal care/kennel assistants.

Key Duties

  • Perform general nursing duties within the practice and provide assistance to veterinary surgeons as required.
  • Carry out and be accountable for specific tasks allocated by the Clinical Nursing Manager and Practice Manager.
  • Ensure organisation and preparedness for patients, providing support during low-staffing periods.
  • Administer treatment, dispense medication, and perform procedures in accordance with professional guidelines and practice policies.
  • Maintain accurate medical records, anaesthetic sheets, and hospitalisation forms.
  • Care for in-patients, including pre-op care, monitoring, recovery, and post-op care.
  • Efficiently manage stock rotation and replenishment.
  • Participate in the out-of-hours nursing rota as agreed upon.
  • Support reception duties and report on patient progress to clients via telephone when necessary.
  • Participate in cleaning and maintenance of premises and patient areas, particularly clinical areas.
  • Support the Clinical Nursing Manager and Practice Manager as needed.
  • Assist with marketing initiatives, such as open evenings or days.
  • Familiarise yourself with health and safety risks and follow correct use of equipment.
  • Welcome visiting veterinary surgeons, students, and work experience employees.
  • Attend regular meetings with the Clinical Nursing Manager and other employees.
  • Participate in relevant CPD and in-house training, completing feedback forms and sharing information with team members.

Estimated Salary: £28,000 - £35,000 per annum, depending on experience.
