As a Bio/Design Engineer at Oxitec, you will be part of an interdisciplinary team working on the research and development of our insect rearing technologies. Your primary focus will be to design, build, and test rearing equipment for our Friendly Cattle Tick programme.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with biologists and engineers to design and prototype novel and scalable tick rearing equipment in a timely manner.

Actively gather specifications and feedback to refine these solutions to ensure optimal and cost-effective performance.

Use a range of techniques to solve complex bioengineering challenges, adopting an open-minded and creative approach.

Continuously explore emerging technologies to enhance existing processes and drive innovation.

Directly impact the rearing success, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness within the Cattle Tick programme.

Requirements

Strong engineering background with experience in iterative design and novel problem-solving.

Bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. mechanical engineering, bioengineering, design engineering, product engineering) or associated industry experience.

Competency with hand and power tools and workshop experience.

Competency with CAD modelling in SolidWorks (or similar).

Previous experience working in an R&D environment.

Excellent written and oral communication skills to communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders.

Track record of scientific diligence, including valuing careful generation and recording of data.

Strong attention to detail, with excellent timekeeping standards and responsiveness.
