Job Title: SHE Officer

Central Employment Agency is seeking a highly skilled SHE Officer to oversee safety, health, and environmental standards across two sites. This full-time position requires coverage from Monday to Friday.

The role will predominantly operate from the North East site in Sedgefield, with eventual plans for a balance between Sedgefield and the Keighley site in West Yorkshire.

Main Purpose:

The SHE Officer will be responsible for ensuring comprehensive compliance with Safety, Health & Environmental policies across the sites. This includes updating and maintaining H&S, Environmental manuals, and ensuring adherence to these standards by employees, managers, and suppliers.

The successful candidate will oversee waste management processes and ensure proper disposal methods are implemented.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Uphold a safe workplace environment, ensuring adherence to health and safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Meet statutory obligations related to health, safety, environment, and welfare at work.
  • Conduct and review risk assessments for work equipment and operations, and implement improvements based on investigations of accidents.
  • Organize safety inspections, fire drills, report safety inspections, and manage lone working procedures.
  • Update and revise health and safety policies and procedures in line with legislative changes.
  • Manage training records and organize necessary health and safety training sessions.
  • Implement and manage documented health and safety inspections, audits, and checks.
  • Liaise with external training consultants when necessary for required training provisions.
  • Chair health and safety meetings, ensuring effective communication of minutes and action points.
  • Stay updated on legislative changes and communicate relevant policy updates to the board.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
  • NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Environmental qualification is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for presentations and explaining safety processes.
  • Negotiation skills to advocate for safety standards even if it compromises efficiency.
  • Analytical mindset, attention to detail, and investigative skills.
  • Flexibility in approach to work and a proactive interest in legal regulations.
