Java Software Engineer

At Synechron, we're seeking a skilled Java Developer to join our agile squad in Glasgow. The ideal candidate will have experience working in large enterprise environments, preferably in the banking sector.

The Java Developer will be responsible for developing within a system comprising of numerous Java services that interact via messaging to produce product outputs in real time. Technologies such as highly multi-threaded Java, Sharded Mongo DB, and caching are used in the stack to provide the scale and performance required.

The successful candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a logical approach to problem solving, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment liaising with demanding stakeholders. They will also be required to prioritize work under pressure with minimal supervision.

The Java Developer will be expected to have the following skills and experience:

  • Core server-side Java, including Data Structures and Concurrency
  • Spring and JUnit
  • Linux
  • Relational Databases (Sybase and/or DB2 preferred) with ability to write SQL queries
  • Understanding of message-based architectures
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • An interest in learning the business supported by the applications
  • Knowledge and desire to use agile software development practices

Applicants must be based in or near Glasgow and be able to commit to 3 days per week in the office.
