Job Overview

The Department for Energy Security & Net Zero seeks an exceptional Deputy Director to lead its Hydrogen Strategy and Portfolio Delivery team. As a key member of the HICC Directorate, you will play a crucial role in shaping the UK's hydrogen economy and delivering low-carbon hydrogen solutions.

Salary and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary of £75,000 per annum, plus a contributory pension scheme with an average employer contribution of 27%. You will also enjoy a minimum of 25 days' paid annual leave, increasing by one day per year up to a maximum of 30, as well as access to a range of learning and professional development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead a team of 40-45 FTE, building strong relationships with senior leaders and teams across HICC, DESNZ, and wider government.
  2. Oversee the implementation of the UK Hydrogen Strategy and Economy Roadmap, ensuring progress against milestones and commitments.
  3. Refine and update the strategy to maintain the UK's position as a leader in hydrogen internationally.
  4. Drive delivery of the Hydrogen Delivery Council's two-year work plan, coordinating efforts across six working groups.
  5. Manage strategic communications and engagement for the HICC Directorate, supporting major publications and announcements.
  6. Oversee governance of the hydrogen sub-portfolio, ensuring robust processes and structures evolve as needed.
  7. Lead planning and risk management for hydrogen programmes and projects, balancing complexity with proportionate processes.
