Principal Firmware Engineer Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Principal Firmware Engineer to lead our firmware development process. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about designing and developing high-quality firmware solutions.

About the Role
  • Liaise with an external software development resource team to ensure quality output and implement processes to guarantee quality results.
  • Define work packages/statements of work for the team to execute, verifying code base and sign off on architectural changes.
  • Carry out root cause analysis on coding issues, have final sign off on architectural changes, and own the end-to-end firmware development process.
Responsibilities
  • Manage an external software development resource team to deliver high-quality firmware solutions.
  • Define and manage work packages/statements of work for the team to execute, ensuring timely completion and quality delivery.
  • Verify code base, sign off on architectural changes, and implement processes to ensure quality output.
  • Carry out hands-on coding up to 50% of the time, utilizing previous experience to determine when defining a work package may be better use of resource.
  • Own, coordinate, and undertake design reviews – creating reports and associated documentation.
Requirements
  • Expert in C & C++ programming languages.
  • Knowledge of STM32 and FreeRTOS microcontrollers.
  • Experience developing products in highly regulated industries.
  • Knowledge of TFT LCD display control drivers and GUI development.
