About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Chief Civil Engineer to join our team at the City of Birmingham. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for overseeing the planning, design, and construction of public infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage a team of civil engineers and technicians to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Review and approve engineering plans and designs to ensure compliance with city codes and regulations.
  • Collaborate with external contractors and engineering firms to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets to ensure effective resource allocation.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to subordinates to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties.
Requirements
  • Professional Engineer License from the state of Alabama or a state with reciprocity with Alabama.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in lead engineering capacity, preferably in a public sector setting.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
