Job Title: Lead Antenna Engineer

Leonardo UK Ltd., a leading defence technology company, is seeking a highly skilled Lead Antenna Engineer to join our team in Bristol or Luton. As a key member of our Core Delivery Team, you will be responsible for leading a team of Antenna Engineers in the development of cutting-edge RF products for integration on future airborne platforms.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement technical strategies for the antenna discipline, ensuring alignment with overall system performance.
  • Lead a team of engineers in the design, development, and testing of antenna/radome systems and frequency selective components.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Antenna Engineer to set technical direction and ensure the team has the necessary resources and capabilities to achieve their objectives.
  • Generate project plans and estimations for project delivery, working closely with the Chief Antenna Engineer and Electronics People and Capability Lead.
  • Provide day-to-day line management to direct reports, ensuring their personal development and addressing any wider issues that may arise.
Requirements:
  • Degree in a STEM subject (Physics, Mathematics, Electronic/Electrical Engineering, System Engineering, or other science-based subject).
  • Experience/Education in at least one of the following areas of Electromagnetics: Radio frequency (RF) design, Antenna design/modelling/measurement (including installed antenna design) or Computational Electromagnetic Modelling (CEM).
  • Excellent numerical problem-solving skills and an aptitude for lateral or innovative thinking.
  • Strong communication skills to convey complex subjects across a multi-disciplined project team.
  • Demonstrated experience of technical leadership and delivery of complicated engineering work packages.
Desirable Skills:
  • Working knowledge of EM modelling tools such as CST Microwave Studio or similar.
  • Scientific programming experience, preferably in MATLAB.
  • Theoretical or practical knowledge of antenna measurements.
  • Measurement experience using standard microwave equipment (VNA, Spectrum Analyser, etc.).
  • Experience of direct line management of engineers, including conducting appraisals and managing personal development of team members.

Due to the nature of this role, candidates must be sole UK Nationals to obtain full SC security clearance and access to UK Eyes Only and ITAR export-controlled material.
