Job Title: School Caretaker

New Directions Education is seeking a reliable and motivated individual to work as a School Caretaker, supporting local primary schools with temporary positions.

This role requires flexibility, reliability, and a willingness to work in different schools in the Cardiff area. School caretakers work split-shifts (e.g. 7am - 11am and 3pm - 6pm), therefore access to transport is highly desirable. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall upkeep, maintenance, and security of the grounds and premises.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Opening the school in the morning and locking up at the end of the day
  • Ensuring the doors, gates, and windows are locked when the building is not in use
  • Carrying out daily checks of heating, boiler, and alarm systems
  • Carrying out day-to-day maintenance and minor repairs throughout the school
  • Organising external contracts for major work
  • Cleaning duties such as emptying bins and litter picking
  • Dealing with lettings, arranging chairs and tables for meetings, and clearing away afterwards
Essential Requirements:
  • An awareness of health, safety, security, and hygiene
  • An excellent practical knowledge
  • Previous experience in a maintenance, trades, or repairs position with transferable skills
Desirable Requirements:
  • Previous experience as a school caretaker
  • Experience carrying out legionella testing
