Job Summary

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust seeks a Specialty Doctor in Ophthalmology with a special interest in General Ophthalmology and Non-Surgical Glaucoma. The successful appointee will participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, clinical audit, and management duties. They will contribute to the General Ophthalmology and emergency service on the Leicester Royal Infirmary site and associated community hospitals.

Main Responsibilities

The Specialty Doctor will be expected to work in a multidisciplinary team, undertake management duties, and participate in the development of the department. They will have a principle interest in General Ophthalmology and Glaucoma and contribute to the General Ophthalmology and emergency service. The appointee will join an active and enthusiastic team of 27 Ophthalmologists, providing generalist and sub-specialist Ophthalmology services within the UHL.

Requirements

The successful candidate must be on the GMC specialist register or within 6 months of the interview date have a certificate of completion of specialist training. An enhanced police criminal records disclosure will be requested by the Trust in the event of a successful application. Person Specification

The following qualifications, motivation, experience, and skills are required:

  • Full GMC registration
  • MBBS/MRCS
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to teaching
  • 4 years full-time postgraduate training or equivalent, at least 2 years as Ophthalmology trainee
  • Career progression
  • Ability to work in MDT teams and supervise juniors
  • Ability to cope in stressful situations
