About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Practice Manager to join our dynamic team at Earnswood Medical Centre. As a key member of our management team, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the organisation, ensuring staff achieve their primary responsibilities, and providing operational management to the whole practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the organisation, ensuring staff achieve their primary responsibilities
  • Functional management of all clinical and administrative staff
  • Direct line management of the following staff: All salaried GPs, Clinical Line Managers, IT Manager, Operations Manager and all other staff not line managed by the previous list
  • Manage the recruitment and retention of staff
  • Ensure that all staff undertake a robust induction process, including staff employed via the PCN
  • Establish, review and regularly update job descriptions and person specifications ensuring all staff are legally and gainfully employed
  • Implement and embed an effective staff appraisal process
  • Implement effective systems for the resolution of disciplinary and grievance issues
  • Ensure compliance with HR legislation
  • Operational HR Lead
  • Ensure all staff have the appropriate level of training to enable them to carry out their individual roles and responsibilities effectively
  • Implement and embed an efficient business resilience plan (BRP) in conjunction with the Business Partner
  • Coordinate the reviewing and updating of all organisation policies and procedures in conjunction with the Deputy Business Manager
  • Lead change and continuous improvement initiatives; coordinate projects within the organisation as directed by the Business Partner
  • Coordinate the compilation of organisation reports in line with the practice development plan (PDP)
  • Ensure the team reaches QOF targets (supported by the nursing and administrative leads)
  • Adopt a strategic approach to the management of all patient services matters
  • Develop, implement and embed an effective communication strategy (internal)
  • Ensure the organisation maintains compliance with its NHS contractual obligations
  • Actively encourage and promote the use of patient online services
  • Publish communications for internal and external use such as an organisation newsletter on a quarterly basis
  • Liaise at external meetings as required
  • Market the practice appropriately
  • Support the management of the Patient Participation Group
  • Support the Operations Manager when needed in the management of all complaints in line with current legislation and guidance
  • The management of the premises, including leading on health and safety aspects such as risk assessments and mandatory training
  • Ensure compliance with IT security and IG
  • Coordinate the organisation diary, ensuring meetings are scheduled appropriately
  • Health & Safety Lead within the practice
  • First point of contact with the building Manager
Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Good standard of education with excellent literacy and numeracy skills
  • Desirable: Educated to degree level in business or healthcare, Leadership or Management qualification

Experience

  • Experience of working in a healthcare setting
  • Experience of working with the general public
  • Experience of managing multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience of performance management including appraisal writing, staff development and disciplinary procedures
  • Experience of successfully implementing projects
  • Experience of workforce planning and development
  • Desirable: Experience of working in General Practice, Experience of managing a budget, Health & Safety experience, CQC experience
