About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Multiskilled Maintenance Engineer to join our team at MDE Group UK. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our manufacturing plant by carrying out electrical and mechanical breakdown repair coverage, planned preventive maintenance, and training operators and craft personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Electrical and Mechanical Breakdown Repair: Respond to machine breakdowns with a view to minimizing downtime and improving long-term machine reliability.
  • Planned Preventive Maintenance: Execute the lead/senior maintenance engineer's plan to work preventatively in addition to reactively.
  • Root Cause Analysis: Use appropriate root cause analysis tools and 5S to identify and resolve issues.
  • Continuous Improvement: Actively support a culture of continuous improvement, looking at ways to engineer out persistent problems.
  • Cost Consciousness: Be cost-conscious and achieve savings where possible.
  • Maintenance Record Keeping: Accurately record all maintenance tasks performed on an electronic reporting system.
  • Training and Development: Train operators and craft personnel in performing first-line and planned maintenance activities as and when required.
  • Communication and Liaison: Communicate and liaise with other departments and fellow maintenance engineers to ensure continuity of information between shifts.
  • Supplier Liaison: Liaise with machine tool suppliers/representatives for the purchase of machine tool spares and resolution of problems requiring 3rd party support.
  • Apprentice Training: Be responsible for training apprentices.
  • Quality Assurance: Proactively ensure quality procedures and guidelines are followed to ensure quality objectives are met.
  • Customer Quality Concerns: Escalate any customer quality concern immediately upon identification.
Requirements
  • Electrical and Mechanical Knowledge: Be conversant with Electricity at Work Regulations, COSHH, and Safety at Work Regulations.
  • Fault-Finding Skills: Strong fault-finding skills.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate well at all levels.
  • Teamwork: Works well alone and as part of a team.
  • Proactivity: To have a proven record of being proactive, self-motivated, and flexible when working in a pressurized environment.
Qualifications
  • Pneumatic, Electrical, and Hydraulic Schematics: Ability to read pneumatic, electrical, and hydraulic schematics.
  • Multi-Skilled Individual: Multi-skilled individual with practical experience in PLC fault finding and repair.
  • Electrical Bias: Complete understanding and experience of mechanical and electrical disciplines.
  • Education and Qualifications: Ideally, to have served a recognized engineering apprenticeship. Ideally, HNC qualified, or equivalent experience.
  • Computer Skills: Conversant in standard MS office applications.
