Job Title: Principal Building Control Inspector

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Building Control Inspector to join our team at Michael Page (UK). As a key member of our Building Control team, you will be responsible for ensuring that building work is carried out in accordance with the Building Regulations and other relevant legislation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the day-to-day control of building work within the district.
  • Lead on major and complex projects, including plans examination, site inspections, and enforcement.
  • Check plans and notices for compliance with Building Regulations and ancillary legislation.
  • Process plans and notices, prepare notices, and pass or reject plans within statutory time limitations.
  • Liaise with various stakeholders, including the Fire Service and Water Authorities.
  • Inspect work on site in connection with all types of development.
  • Ensure fees and charges are recovered in relation to Building Control applications.
  • Investigate alleged breaches of Building Regulations, including the identification of contraventions and gathering evidence for proceedings.
  • Maintain concise and organized records of site inspections, telephone conversations, meetings, and emails.
  • Adopt a 'Development Team Approach' to secure cross-Departmental compliance.
  • Liaise with clients and industry professionals, including architects, surveyors, engineers, agents, and contractors.
  • Undertake routine written work, correspondence, and other administrative duties in connection with the Building Control function.
  • Contribute to the effective marketing of Local Authority Building Control locally and nationally.
  • Assist the Building Control Manager with the commercial development of the group.
  • Identify possible partner companies and develop partnering arrangements through the LABC 'Partner Authority Scheme'.
  • Manage a portfolio of companies under the LABC 'Partner Authority Scheme'.
  • Be involved in cross-boundary and partnership working with other local authorities as required by the Building Control Manager.
  • Assist in the business-based management of the group to ensure the requirements relating to the statutory 'Building Control Trading Account' are achieved.
  • Give advice to the public and other ENC Departments/Groups on Building Regulation and construction matters.
  • Advise applicants and consider applications for the dispensation of Building Regulation requirements.
  • Organize the testing of controlled services and materials when necessary.
  • Carry out prompt investigations and inspections of dangerous structures, including the organization and supervision of emergency remedial work.
  • Serve as an asset of the Council's Emergency Plan.
  • Carry out investigations, inspections, and related actions in respect of the control of demolitions.
  • Administer Initial Notices, Plans Certificates, and Final Certificates relating to The Building (Approved Inspectors etc.) Regulations 2010.
  • Assist the Access Officer in promoting access for all.
  • Investigate building failures, including the preparation of reports and evidence for insurance purposes.
  • Provide information concerning the progress of construction works for statistical returns.
  • Prepare information required for Land charges Searches relating to the Building Regulations.
  • Liaise with other groups within the council in respect of matters of common interest.
  • Assist in the promotion of the group and dissemination of changing regulatory requirements.
