HV Electrical Power System Study Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled HV Electrical Power System Study Engineer to join our team at AtkinsRéalis. As a key member of our Energy Networks team, you will play a vital role in shaping the future of energy and achieving Net Zero.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth simulations and analytical studies for transmission and distribution, planning, load and generation interconnection, and integration of renewables.
  • Prepare simulation study models and carry out power system studies, including grid compliance studies for wind, solar, BESS, and hybrid projects.
  • Perform steady-state and dynamic power flow analysis, fault ride-through studies, short circuit calculations, power quality analysis, and electro-magnetic transient analysis (EMTP).
  • Dynamic simulation of networks involving HVDC, FACTS, and inverter-based generation.
  • Carry out protection calculations, including overcurrent and earth fault protection coordination for transmission and distribution networks, unit protection calculations for transformers, motors, busbars, and generators.
  • Lead and carry out consulting, research, and development study projects, analyze study results, and recommend solutions.
  • Prepare study reports and other technical documentation, respond to requests for proposals (RFPs), and mentor junior staff.

Requirements

  • Masters or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with relevant industrial experience.
  • Knowledge of grid codes and power electronic converters.
  • Expertise in system study software, such as PSCAD, DIgSILENT, PSSE, MATLAB/Simulink, and Python coding.
