As a Bioinformatics Research Scientist at Hlx Life Sciences, you will play a key role in developing models for computational protein engineering. The successful candidate will collaborate with data scientists, bioinformaticians, protein engineers, and molecular biologists to create and continuously improve proteins and enzymes critical to work on reagents, assays, and instruments.

The Opportunity:

  • Develop models to design and optimize proteins to achieve R&D project goals in cross-functional teams
  • Benchmark the performance of deep learning models (e.g., language models, graph neural networks, diffusion models) across varied projects and datasets
  • Streamline data preparation and the deployment, training, and/or fine-tuning of ML models
  • Keep abreast of the latest developments in machine learning and integrate these methods into existing workflows, when appropriate
  • Present and communicate project updates to diverse teams in the organization

Your Experience:

  • 3+ years industry experience with a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Biophysics, Computational Biology, Structural Biology, or a related field.
  • Strong interest in utilizing computational techniques within protein engineering
  • Strong skills in Python, with libraries like PyTorch and TensorFlow, and experience with version control systems such as Git.
  • Knowledge of deep learning models to solve biological problems, with an emphasis on machine learning-based protein engineering.
  • Work in high-performance computing environments.
