About this opportunity

We're seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead our Sanctions and Economic Crime Prevention team. As the Head of Sanctions, you'll be responsible for developing and implementing effective Sanctions risk management strategies across the Group.

You'll work closely with senior colleagues to provide insightful and pragmatic advice, and constructive challenge to the business. Your extensive understanding of the Group's Sanction Risk profile will enable you to provide robust oversight and challenge to the business, ensuring that ECP Sanctions Risks are fully understood, mitigated and managed.

As a trusted partner to the business, you'll represent the Group at Sanctions-related industry fora, providing expert advice and insight to ensure that the Group's strategic aims are supported in the direction of travel.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the formulation, delivery and maintenance of the Sanctions elements of the Group Economic Crime Prevention Policy and associated standards;
  • Acting as a trusted partner to senior colleagues across all 3LOD, providing insightful and pragmatic advice, and constructive challenge to the business;
  • Representing the Group, and the Group Director of ECP by working collaboratively with a variety of external partners to drive more effective ways of preventing, detecting, and mitigating Sanctions risk;
  • Providing strategic direction and leadership in the area of Sanction by having an excellent understanding of the current sanctions threat environment;
  • Providing robust oversight and challenge to the business, ensuring that ECP Sanctions Risks are fully understood, mitigated and managed;
  • Representing the Group at Sanctions-related industry fora, providing expert advice and insight to ensure that the Group's strategic aims are supported in the direction of travel;
  • Leading teams, coaching, and nurturing talent;

What you'll need:

To succeed in this role, you'll need:

  • Proven leadership qualities and experience in building and inspiring a diverse, engaged and capable Sanctions risk team;
  • A solid understanding of what an effective Sanctions risk management framework looks like and how it should operate;
  • A strong technical background in relation to the legal and regulatory obligations for managing the risks associated with Sanctions and Sanctions evasion;
  • A deep understanding of Sanctions screening tools;
  • Be able to translate often complex regulatory requirements into practical, risk-based guidance in a commercially sensitive way;
  • Be comfortable in challenging the business to support the enhancement of their sanctions risk control environment;
