We are seeking an experienced Orthoptist to join our team as an Extended Role Specialist. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day orthoptic clinics and services, as well as taking on an extended role within ophthalmology using Ophthalmic Practitioner Training (OPT) programmes.
Main Responsibilities- Provide high-quality orthoptic services as an autonomous practitioner and manage own clinical workload.
- Take part in extended roles within ophthalmology using OPT programmes.
- Assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patients referred to the Orthoptic service, including those with Paediatric visual disorders, ocular motility disorders, neuro-ophthalmology, and other ophthalmic conditions.
- Support in a managerial role with orthoptists, junior orthoptists, and optometrists, including management of sickness absence, reorganisation of workload, and dealing with issues or complaints.
The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust provides a range of general acute, outpatient, and diagnostic services across multiple sites. We employ 3,500 staff and serve a local population of around 350,000 people, with an extended catchment area of up to 500,000.

Requirements- Registered Orthoptist with HCPC
- Ophthalmology knowledge and experience
- Leadership courses (desirable)
- Previous experience in all aspects of Orthoptics (adults/paeds)
