Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Orthoptist to join our team as an Extended Role Specialist. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day orthoptic clinics and services in the department, as well as taking on an extended role within ophthalmology using Ophthalmic Practitioner Training (OPT) programmes.

Main Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality orthoptic services as an autonomous practitioner and manage own clinical workload.
  • Take part in extended roles within ophthalmology using OPT programmes.
  • Assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patients referred to the Orthoptic service, including Paediatric visual disorders, ocular motility disorders, neuro-ophthalmology, and other ophthalmic conditions.
  • Support in a managerial role with orthoptists, junior orthoptists, and optometrists, including management of sickness absence, reorganisation of workload, and dealing with issues or complaints.

Requirements
  • Registered Orthoptist with HCPC
  • Ophthalmology knowledge and experience
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to resolve problems
  • Single-handed clinics management of patients in hospital settings
