Job Overview

This role is part of Powertrain Operations and Product Engineering at Jaguar Land Rover. As a Site Engineer, you will provide critical support to the engine/EDU build teams, ensuring timely completion of engineering builds and facilitating data collation.

You will work closely with the build supervisor and lead build engineer to maintain a productive workflow and enhance the engine/EDU teams' delivery capability to the Prototype Engine Test Team. Your role will also involve ensuring the build shop has the necessary parts at the right time to proceed with builds.

The build engineering team is responsible for constructing products to the correct specification and configuration as defined by customer teams. Following quality approval, products are dispatched safely and to the desired quality to enable engine test/PVO, with the goal of achieving an on-time, safe, and quality product release.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Fault finding, investigating causes, and resolving faults online, including tooling specification and design, and equipment specification.
  2. Ensuring the availability of a suitable Bill of Materials (BoM) and change management process, supporting trials of the process via paper build and emphasis build to enable operations and ensure Safety and Quality measures are met. Collaborating with engineering teams to develop state-of-the-art build processes, measurement techniques, and validation methods to ensure a world-class product.
  3. Ensuring the availability of suitable tooling to enable operations to build to process and meet required process capability standards. Where possible, driving for a Make Like Production (MLP) solution.
  4. Supporting Prototype development for DV and vehicles via deviation matrix and instrumentation brochure, ensuring timely delivery of Parts, Information, and Instruction to enable build.
  5. Ensuring all build issues are raised, tracked, and resolved via CCAR with suitable escalation to AIMS to enable support and knowledge transfer to manufacturing. Failure rate and scrap rate tracked to ensure stock control and cost management.

Requirements

  1. A Level 4 qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent in English, Maths, and Science.
  2. Experience and understanding of facilities, processes, equipment, and leading technologies.
  3. Clear and confident communication skills, both orally and in writing, with a proactive attitude and willingness to learn new technologies, systems, and processes.
  4. Ability to accurately and concisely present complex technical ideas or project issues to a diverse audience.
  5. Ability to challenge existing thinking in a positive way while building credibility and trust through experience and personal style.
