Initial Risk Underwriter Job Description


We are seeking a highly skilled Initial Risk Underwriter to join our team at Legal & General. As an Initial Risk Underwriter, you will play a crucial role in reviewing customer applications to identify risk factors and assessing whether we can offer Life, Critical Illness Cover, and Income Protection applications.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Accurately Assess and Document Life and Disability Risks: Review customer applications to identify risk factors and assess whether we can offer Life, Critical Illness Cover, and Income Protection applications.
  • Ensure Accurate and Appropriate Requests for Further Information: Ensure that any requests for further information are appropriate and accurate and commensurate with the risk being assessed.
  • Identify and Escalate Complaints: Identify complaints and escalate them to an authorised complaints handler so that they are acted upon quickly and root causes highlighted to ensure compliance with complaints response time limits.
  • Maintain Knowledge and Understanding of Legislative and Regulatory Requirements: Take ownership of maintaining an excellent knowledge and understanding of legislative and regulatory requirements.

Requirements:



  • Understanding of Risk Factors for Mortality and Morbidity: An understanding of the risk factors for mortality and morbidity is essential for this role.
  • Knowledge of Legislator and Regulatory Requirements: Understanding of legislations and regulatory requirements would be preferable.
  • Working Knowledge of Relevant Systems and Software: Working knowledge of relevant systems and software relevant to your team is desirable but not essential as training will be provided.
  • Effective Communication Skills: Effective written and verbal communication through all media e.g. telephony, letter writing, participation in meetings, forums and presentations.
