About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Control Systems Engineer to join our team at Continental. As a Control Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing control algorithms for power electronics systems, including multi-phase inverters and DCDC converters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain control algorithms for power electronics systems, including multi-phase inverters and DCDC converters.
  • Optimize control systems for traction inverters, including synchronous permanent magnet and asynchronous machines.
  • Use proven design methodologies to develop efficient solutions, analyzing control system design and modeling to drive subsystem component optimizations and safety-driven redundancy requirements.
  • Work closely with other engineering disciplines to develop physics-based analytical tools, translating them into desktop models for proof of concept, yielding system design specifications and algorithms that translate to real-time embedded code.
  • Support system architecture definition and interact with other design disciplines to ensure the needs of the control system design are met.
  • Measure and calibrate system functions to comply with project requirements, complete sign-off procedures for vehicle algorithms, calibrations, and final product testing.

Requirements

  • Degree-qualified in a relevant science or engineering discipline, preferably electronics or controls engineering.
  • Core understanding and proven experience developing and maintaining control algorithms for permanent magnet synchronous electric machines, asynchronous electric machines, and associated machine control functions.
  • Core understanding and proven experience developing and maintaining control algorithms for power electronics, specifically high-voltage inverters/DCDC converters and their associated control functions.
  • Ability to consider problems and identify solutions from the system level.
  • Good test and analysis skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with standard office tools: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Team player with the ability to work alone unsupervised.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience in a simulation, analysis, and development environment – model architecture definition, tool-chain setup, model and boundary condition setup, data processing, and reporting.
  • Proven experience in a similar control systems engineering role – previous design consultancy experience is also highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in control system calibration, simulation, and test bench.
