Job Summary

The Diabetic Eye Screener plays a vital role in helping individuals living with diabetes by conducting regular eye screenings to detect signs of diabetic retinopathy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate screening clinics safely and efficiently.
  • Welcome and assess service users, undertaking general eye health checks and measuring visual acuity.
  • Administer eye pupil dilation drops and use photography equipment to capture high-quality images of the retina.
  • Review images and send them for full assessment and grading.
  • Maintain equipment, perform daily cleaning and checks, and troubleshoot issues as needed.

Requirements

  • Full training provided for new recruits, but prior experience in screening or healthcare is advantageous.
  • Enrollment in the national Health Screening Diploma course, combining on-the-job training with personal study.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with patience and understanding when interacting with diverse service users.
  • A valid driving license and access to a car for travel to various clinic venues.
  • Minimum 5 GCSEs, including literacy, numeracy, and IT skills, or equivalent experience.
