Job Overview
An exciting opportunity exists for a Head Orthoptist to manage and deliver Orthoptic services in the department.
As lead, you will work with strategic planning, development, and delivery of a quality-driven Orthoptic service in line with the department's overall objectives and strategy.
You will be responsible for line managing the AHP team, including orthoptists and optometrists, and recording, inputting, and reporting on sickness, absence, annual leave, study leave, yearly appraisals, monthly reviews, training programmes, and maintaining competencies.
You will also provide training, supervision, and assessment of undergraduate and postgraduate orthoptists.
Main Duties of the Job
You will provide high-quality Orthoptic services as an autonomous practitioner and manage your own clinical workload.
Clinics include Orthoptic-led follow-up clinics, Joint Orthoptic and neuro-ophthalmology, paediatric clinics, Ophthalmologist/Optometrist clinics, eye casualty, and visual fields.
You will take part in extended roles within ophthalmology using the Ophthalmic Practitioner Training (OPT) programme.
You will assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patients referred to the Orthoptic service, including those with paediatric visual disorders, ocular motility disorders, neuro-ophthalmology, and other ophthalmic conditions.
You will take a managerial role as lead orthoptist for fellow colleagues, junior orthoptists, and optometrists, including managing sickness absence and reorganising workload according to clinical priority.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
